ST status demand Waiting report from MSC for ST : Govt

After the Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee Manipur (STDCM) has urged the State Government to make necessary recommendation to the Govt of India by October 20 for inclusion of Meitei/Meetei in the Scheduled Tribe category under the Constitution of India, the State Govt has assured that it would take appropriate action as soon as it receives a report from the Manipur State Commission for (MSCST)
According to a statement from the Home Department, since the Central Govt has sought socio-economic and ethnographic report by an organisation of repute, the MSCST would examine the matter from the relevant angle to conduct studies and submit a recommendation .
In response to a memorandum submitted by the STDCM, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India sought specific recommendations regarding the demand for inclusion of Meitei/Meetei in ST category along with the latest socio-economic survey and ethnographic report by an organisation of repute .
Acting on the Ministry's intimation, the State Govt asked the MSCST on Sept19 this year to examine the matter and make appropriate recommendations .
Notably, the MSCST was constituted on Aug 8, 2016 with RH Gonmei as chairman and Dr Simpson Sareo and Dr John H Pulamte as members.
