Suspected abductor held

Imphal West commando apprehended an individual suspected to be involved in the abduction of Soibam Dhanabir, owner of SDS brick field at Lamdeng Khunou.
Speaking to media persons at Minuthong commando complex, Imphal West Additional SP (Ops) Dr S Ibomcha pointed out that Soibam Dhanabir was abducted from Naoremthong on February 16 by unknown individuals who demanded a ransom of two crore rupees.
He said, "Some of the phone numbers used to demand ransom for the safe release of Dhanabir were from outside the State.
Then, on February 23 at around 4 pm, a team of Imphal West police commandos spotted the victim being transported on an Alto car around Samurou area and they sprang into action" .
Ibomcha said that the security personnel were able to rescue Dhanabir, who was in a bad shape, but the abductors escaped.
He said that, at around 7 am, acting on reliable information, Imphal West police commando teams led by DSP M Amit and Inspector Somayo R Shimray conducted a cordon and search operation at Taothong Ayungba Maning Leikai area.
"An individual was detained due to his suspicious nature and on further verification he identified himself as Chongtham Ibomcha Singh of Taothong Ayungba Maning Leikai and an active member of KRA-U", he said.
"On further questioning, he disclosed that he had been working under one s/s finance in charge Khangembam Raju Singh alias Ting of Keishamthong Hodam Leirak of the organisation", he added.
Dr Ibomcha Singh further pointed out that the individual nabbed by the police is one of the key players in the abduction of Dhanabir.
