Imphal, February 01 2017:
Indian Medical Association (IMA), Manipur State Branch has today stated that the new draft Indian Medical Council (Amendment) Bill 2016 which was unveiled by the Union Health Ministry is not acceptable.
According to the draft Bill, MBBS Graduates have to pass the National Exit Test (NEXT) in order to earn the "Doctor" tag.
NEXT will substitute three tests, including NEET for postgraduate admissions, recruitment for Central health services and foreign graduate medical examination.

In a sit-in protest staged at Jubille Hall, RIMS by medical students today, Indian Medical Association, Manipur State Branch president Dr Sachin Laishram said that the move to implement NEXT should be revoked immediately.
He said, "It takes 5 years for medical students to study MBBS, 3 years to complete PG and another 3 years if students wish to pursue specialized medical courses.
For students to undergo NEXT after completing MBBS is unreasonable as it takes away the opportunity from medical students to avail Government jobs" .
Instead of introducing such test, the authority concerned should come with plans to provide jobs to the medical students, he added.
