Ningombam poll violence condemned

Imphal, October 12 2021:
While strongly condemning the attack during an election-related public meeting allegedly by supporters of Naoriya Pakhanglakpa AC ex-MLA S Subashchandra; Ningombam Women Committee of Intending Candidate S Kebi president N Manorama and Young Men Development Organisation (YMDO) Heirangoithong general secretary Ch Ranjan have termed the attack as an attempted violation of voters' rights.
In a press meet held at the residence of one S Ashakumar at Ningombam on Tuesday, �Manorama said that the meeting was organised after obtaining permit from the DCs office and with permission of the elderly citizens of the area.
While preparations were on for the meeting, supporters of the ex-MLA arrived and started destroying the flags, posters and also pelted stones.
Such acts of trying to become an elected representative while threatening the people is not a good step, she remarked.
On the other hand, in a press meet held at Ningthemcha Karong on Tuesday with regard to the incident, YMDO general secretary Ch Ranjan said that considering the Monday's incident, it would be better for ex-MLA Subhaschandra to contest the Panchayat member elections instead of the assembly election.
He then strongly condemned the incident, stating that the action of the substance-abusing workers of the ex-MLA of assaulting the public has greatly degraded politics.
