Imphal, November 07 2022:
With an aim of providing a renewable, perennial and eco-friendly means of power in New Nungnang village in Noney district, Tamenglong Battalion of Assam Rifles on Sunday distributed solar powered lamps to the village.
Due to its remoteness combined with harsh hilly terrain, power infrastructure in the region is unreliable and vulnerable to frequent outage, which affects the daily lives of the villagers who reside in this cut off region of Manipur, said a release issued by Defence PRO Lt Col Manish Shrivastava, adding that the solar lamps were distributed under the AR Civic Action Programme.
The project was handed over to the villagers by Commanding officer of Awangkhul post of Tamenglong Battalion on Sunday.
The secretary and village authorities expressed their gratitude to the unit for providing means of renewable energy, while at the same time ensuring safety and security in the region.
A similar civic action project was handed over by the unit in Katang village of Tamenglong district last week, added the release.
