Lions Club's free surgical health camp begins

A two-day free mega surgical health camp organised by Lions Club of Imphal Excellence District 322D Manipur began at Ukhrul District Hospital, Hungpung on Thursday.
Altogether 12 major operations were successfully performed on the first day of the camp out of 20 major surgical cases registered so far.
The operative cases included laparotomy, myomectomy, hysterectomy, hernioplasty, herniotomy, cholecystectomy and salpingooperectomy.
Lions Club Excellency Imphal president Dr Soreingam emphasised the need of having better machinery at District Hospital, Ukhrul so that doctors of the hospital may fulfil their duties effectively.
He thanked Leishiphung Christian Hospital and Comprehensive Health and Research Hospital (CHRH), Ukhrul for supporting the initiative of the club.
Ukhrul District Hospital medical superintendent Dr Raikhan thanked Lions Club Imphal Excellency on behalf of district s health department for taking the initiative to hold the surgical camp despite their busy schedules.
He said that surgical component of the camp was the primary focus and all expenditures, medications and equipment were supplied from the state capital and this has benefitted people of Ukhrul.
The first day of the camp was attended by district governor, 322D governor, TNL president and executives, TMNL and THYSO among others.
Meanwhile, awareness programmes on drug abuse and career counselling were held at Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School and St Joseph College in the township on the same day.
