State doctors to join national protest day

Imphal, June 17 2021:
In solidarity to the nationwide protest against violence on doctors, nurses and medical staff which is being called on June 18, Indian Medical Association (IMA) Manipur State Branch has made all necessary preparations for carrying out the protest in the state as well, said IMA president Dr S Jugindro.
Addressing a press meet held at IMA office, Lamphelpat here on Thursday, Dr Jugindro said that the protest would be staged under the slogan "Save the Saviour" with the objective of stopping assault on medical professionals, to demonstrate and spread awareness on the violence meted out to medical professionals.
In addition, it seeks to urge the government to implement laws/acts to prevent the same.
Doctors, nurses and medical staff including all those working in the health sector will be taking part in the protest, he added.
Meanwhile, Association of Healthcare Providers India, Manipur Chapter president Dr Khundongbam Palin extended its solidarity and said that acts of violence against medical professionals by patient parties are frequent occurrences in the state.
Reasons may vary but enacting an Act/law at this juncture is of utmost important, he stressed.
