2 more succumb to COVID-19 in Kpi, Task Force extends lockdown till May 31

Kangpokpi, May 20 2021:
A Stenographer at Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council, Kangpokpi and a Pastor at P Khohthah in Kangpokpi District succumbed to the dreaded COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the cumulative COVID-19 death in the district to 24 .
Lalthanglen Chongloi (41), S/o (L) Songmang Chongloi of Kangpokpi Ward No 2, a Stenographer at Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council Kangpokpi succumbed to the dreaded COVID-19 today at around 3:20 am.
Unfortunately, the entire family of the deceased including his wife, children and one neighbour were also tested COVID-19 positive.
They were admitted at COVID Care Centre Leikop.
The deceased was buried at Kangpokpi cemetery by volunteers of Kangpokpi Youth ' Union following strict protocol.
Kangpokpi Ward No 2 authority sealed the main road connecting the town with the ward after another death was reported due to COVID-19 .
Two fatalities have been reported in Kangpokpi Ward No 2 so far in the second wave.
Kangpokpi Ward No 4 also reported a COVID-19 death earlier, taking the total deaths in Kangpokpi town to 3 till now.
The other victim, a Pastor of P Khohthah village in Kangpokpi District, Lensat Kipgen (58) succumbed to COVID-19 at RIMS Imphal today at around 2:20 am.
He was admitted at RIMS on May 19 .
With 10 more positive cases detected in the past 24 hours and 14 cured and discharged today, the total number of active cases in the district stands at 94 .
Meanwhile, Kangpokpi CSO COVID Task Force has extended the total lockdown in the district till May 31 due to the rapid increase in COVID-19 positive case and fatality.
According to a statement issued by Thangtinlen Haokip, Secretary, Kangpokpi CSO COVID Task Force, all the village chiefs, village authority, town committee, youth clubs were authorised to make their own local arrangements for basic and essential necessities for public convenience.
The district CSO COVID Task Force also appealed to the public to comply with the local adjustment of the lockdown in the district as it is for the safety of the public while exhorting the people to stay home and stay safe.
Likewise, the local bodies of Kangpokpi under the aegis of Kangpokpi Town Committee also extended the total lockdown till May 31 at the District Headquarters.
L Kipgen, Chairman, Kangpokpi Town Committee in a public notice issued today stated that Kangpokpi town is experiencing a surge in COVID-19 infection and fatality.
Therefore, in consonance with the District CSO COVID Task Force notification, the total lockdown in the town has been extended till May 31.L Kipgen also urged the President and secretary of Kangpokpi Auto Owner's Association to immediately cease public transportation within and outside of the town in public interest.
However, Government services, banking services, essential services and other emergency services, funeral, etc were exempted from the purview of the total lockdown.
