Assam Rifles foils timber smuggling

Imphal, May 19 2021:
Troops of Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) foiled smuggling of timber near Heirok village in Thoubal today.
Based on credible inputs from the reliable sources, troops of Assam Rifles intercepted two vehicles carrying timber and on thorough checking of the vehicles, smuggled timber assessed to be worth Rs 1.58 crore was recovered, said a statement issued by PRO Assam Rifles.
The seized timber along with the apprehended individuals were handed over to Forest Range Office Thoubal for further legal action.
In another instance troops of Assam Rifles alongwith 165 TA under the aegis of IGAR (South) foiled timber smuggling near Khudengthabi yesterday.
Based on specific intelligence, a team of Tengnoupal Battalion launched a search operation at 8 "PM and the team intercepted a truck carrying teak wood.
On thorough checking, 45.395 cubic feet of teak wood was recovered from the vehicle, added the statement.
The recovered wood and the apprehended individuals were handed over to forest department
for further investigation.
