WAD calls for ending gender based crimes

Women Action for Development (WAD) secretary Sobita Mangsatabam has stressed the need to check the rising cases of husbands killing both their wives and children in the state.
As part of 'The international fortnight day observance for elimination of crime against women', WAD on Friday carried out a fact-finding into the murder of a woman and her child by her husband, who happened to be a police constable, in the morning of December 3.The WAD volunteers met with the family of the deceased mother and child, and also visited G Saparmeina police station.
The accused husband identified as Holkhomang Haokip of G Gelbung village is currently in judicial custody.
Speaking on the sidelines, WAD secretary Sobita remarked that the number of similar cases has been on the rise over the past few years.
She then said that the rise in such cases should be taken seriously and investigated the causes so as to come up with measures to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
