14-day state handloom expo concludes

Imphal, May 30 2022:
The 14-day State Handloom Expo organised by Manipur Apex Handloom Weavers and Handicrafts Artisans CS Ltd (AWAS) under the aegis of National Highways Development Project (NHDP) and Development Commissioner for Handloom, Ministry of Textiles, culminated at Urban Haat, Nilakuthi on Monday.
Speaking at the valedictory function, national awardee Wahengbam Saya pointed out that weaving is a type of occupation in which one, especially womenfolk, could earn money working from home and take care of their families.
The occupation also helps shed international light onto the state's handloom products, she said and urged women who are in the profession to produce more unique products, thereby bring more recognition to the state's handloom industry.
Presided over by AWAS vice president S Bhubol, the closing function was attended by Weavers' Service Centre (WSC) assistant director (Weaving) M Ibohal; District Handloom and Textiles, Churachandpur project manager Th Ibemcha and AWAS managing director Ch Mandakini as guests of honour.
Later, certificates were distributed to participants of the expo.
