Imphal, September 25 2021:
The High Court of Manipur has directed the state government to declare the members of Red Cross Society (RCS), who are playing a key role in combating the Covid-19 pandemic, as frontline workers within two weeks.
On September 23, the court of Justice Kh Nobin heard a writ petition filed by Dr Yanglem Mohen Singh with the state government represented by the chief secretary, secretary to Governor, and health and family welfare's principal secretary/commissioner, deputy secretary, director and state mission director as respondents.
The petitioner prayed to the Court to direct the government to translate the letter notified by the deputy secretary (Health & Family Welfare) on July 27 into action, while further appealing to the Court to issue direction for declaring the members of RCS who are playing key roles in combating the pandemic and other natural disasters, as frontline workers.
After listening to the submissions of the petitioner; the Court directed the respondents, particularly the state mission director to put into effect the letter issued by the deputy secretary (Health & Family Welfare) on July 27 and declare the RCS members as frontline workers within the specified deadline.
