Four arrested for dog trade

Kakching, October 13 2021:
Sugnu Police on Tuesday arrested four persons for transporting seven dogs in an inhumane manner by stuffing them in gunny bags.
Speaking to the media, SP (Kakching) Victoria Yengkhom informed that a team of Sugnu police station deployed for checking duty at Sugnu-Napat bridge under the command of ST Pukhrambam Kiran Singh intercepted four persons in two Kenbo bikes transporting seven dogs by cramming them into gunny bags around 6:30 am.
The four accused have been identified as Letkhohau (21), son of Hemjang, Khopuibung village; John Paolun Khongsai (26), son of Letkholim Khongsai, Tuilehluon village.
Thonglet Mate (53), son of Jangkholet Mate, Khopuibung village, all in Churachanpur district; and Thangkhohou Mate (23), son of Holsei Mate, Old Changpol village in Tengnoupal district.
The SP mentioned that on interrogation the quartet revealed that the dogs, including one found dead, were brought from Zoupi village in Chandel district for delivery at Churachandpur town.
A case has been registered against the four accused under Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 at Sugnu police station, she further stated.
