CM urged to order probe into Keithelmanbi incident

Imphal, January 28 2022:
The JAC formed against the January
21, 2022 Security Lapses on Petroleum Product
on Friday wrote to the Chief Minister,
urging the latter to conduct an inquiry
into the security lapses that led to attack
on trucks carrying petroleum products
by bandh supporters at Keithelmanbi in
Kangpokpi district on January 21.
The letter recounted that on January 21,
the trucks carrying petroleum products
were being escorted by security forces,
when they were attacked and pelted with
stones along Keithelmanbi area in Kangpokpi
district.
The security lapse resulted
in some of the drivers beaten up by the
bandh supporters.
A telephonic meeting of the office bearers
of NPCL, BPCL, IOCL, Narayan Energy and
Manipur LPG Distributers', Bullet, Tanker
Transporters and Drivers' Association was
convened in connection with the incident,
wherein it was unanimously decided to
urge for proper implementation of security
measures along the national highways
connecting the state and also installation
of necessary signage.
The meeting further condemned the
incident and urged the government to
implement the necessary safety measures
for the drivers who are doing service along
the route as soon as possible.
It also urged for setting up an inquiry
committee to look into the incident and
punish those responsible, while demanding
imposition of restrictions under Section
144 of CrPC along the route.
In addition, a
departmental inquiry must be conducted
to look into the security lapses in the incident,
by February 10, failing which the JAC
would launch intense form of agitations, the
letter conveyed.
Copies of the letter were
also forwarded to the chief secretary, IGP,
and CAF & PD commissioner.
