Fish seed production centre inaugurated

National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) Imphal general manager Dr M Srinivasa Rao has inaugurated a Seed Production Centre for air breathing fishes - Clarius Magur (Ngakra) and Anabas Testudineus (Ukabi) set up at Wabagai Kadajit on Thursday.
The inauguration of the Centre set up by KVK Thoubal under the sponsorship of NABARD was attended by Fisheries director Heisnam Balkrisna, Central Agricultural University (CAU) Imphal director of extension education Prof Ph Ranjit Sharma, KVK Thoubal senior scientist and head Dr Zeshmarani Sarangthem as presidium members, while KVK SMS Fishery Shrivaidya Waikhom presented a brief history about the newly inaugurated centre.
Speaking on the occasion, NABARD Imphal general manager Dr M Srinivasa informed that the bank has been providing funds for taking up agricultural, piscicultural and other activities by joining hands with various departments to give employment to unemployed people.
As part of this effort, the seed production centre has been set up, he said, while expressing hope that the centre will surely provide benefits to the fishermen and enhance their economy.
Similar centres have also been set up in other districts as well, he added.
