Training prog on ornamental fish culture begins

A two-day training programme on 'Entrepreneurship Development through Ornamental Fish Culture' for Scheduled Caste fish farmers of Manipur commenced from Wednesday at the Department of Commerce, Manipur University.
Speaking at the inaugural function of the programme organised jointly by MU Department of Zoology and ICAR Directorate of Coldwater Fisheries Research (DCFR), Bhimtal; MU vice chancellor Prof Naorem Lokendra expressed confidence that the training programme will help people belonging to scheduled caste particularly the youth in improving their economy within a short time.
Fish farming industry is one of the most thriving industries and also plays a significant role in augmenting the state's economy.
Previously, keeping of ornamental fish in aquarium was only done in few houses, but now many families have aquariums and pet ornamental fish, he continued.
Urging the people and youth in particular to focus on ornamental fish culture, which has long-term business prospect, he appealed for joining hands to become successful entrepreneur.
The inaugural function was also attended by MU School of Agriculture Science dean Prof GKN Chhetry, ICAR-DCFR Bhimtal director Dr Pramod Kumar Pandey, MU Department of Zoology head Prof Th Binoy and Life Science Department assistant professor Dr Rameshori Yumnam among others.
