Chaga Ngee fest lights up Liangmai community

The State level Chaga Ngee festival of the Liangmai community was celebrated amidst pomp and show today at Tarung Community Hall, Imphal West.
Organised by the State Level Chaga Ngee Celebration Committee, the function was attended by Francis Ngajokpa, Minister (RD&PR); TN Haokip, MLA and Z Kikhonbou, MLA and Vice-chairman, HAC as the chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.
The gala affair began with the hoisting of the festival's flag and lighting of the ceremonial fire.
Speaking at the occasion, Francis Ngajokpa expressed serious concern over the declining moral and ethical values of the people.
In olden days, the forefathers espoused righteousness while most of the people now indulge in immorality, Francis Ngajokpa said while calling upon the people to follow the footsteps of the forefathers so that peaceful environment prevails in the society.

Expressing regret that there are less number of scholars studying the culture of the people, the Minister encouraged researchers to explore more of the people's cultures so that their identities can be maintained and preserved.
He also stressed the need to develop one's language.
MLA TN Haokip said that all ethnic groups of the NE India region share similarity with other South East Asian Nations.
If the cultural connection is renewed with vigour, more development can be achieved.
MLA Z Kikhonbou said that the Chaga Ngee festival is celebrated by all Liangmei villages in Manipur and Nagaland.
The day is declared a State holiday in Nagaland.
Showcasing of rich traditional dance, folk song, couple show and presentation of songs marked the celebration programme.
A Chaga Ngee feast marked the end of the day long celebration programme.
