Imphal, August 30 2012:
After the successfully operations during which 43 foreign nationals were rounded up from two different areas, Home Minister Gaikhangam today claimed that his department is beginning to carry out the assurances given on illegal migrant issue.
Addressing a press meet, Gaikhangam said that rounding up of 43 foreign nationals is a big achievement of the state police.
Police will continue its operation till all the illegal migrants are identified.
All Police Stations in the state have also been alerted and instructions given to check illegal migrants under their respective jurisdictions.
Talking about today's operation, Gaikhangam disclosed that the two operations were carried out upon receiving reliable information that illegal migrants are hiding.
He assured that police will not have any bias in rounding up all illegal migrants even if they were Kukis, Naga or other communities.
It is necessary to strengthen the mechanism of the country to stop the influx of such migrants.
Although police have been continuing its normal procedures to check such influx, many have been sneaking inside the state secretly.
The 43 migrants rounded up today admitted that they are from Bangladesh and Myanmar.
There are still many persons who are suspicious to be foreign nationals but they claim to be Indian and there is no mechanism in state police to identify their nationality at present.
New mechanism should be adopted to recognise such suspicious persons, he said while adding that all the arrested foreign nationals will be dealt with accordingly to the verdict of the court.
