Imphal, April 27 2013 :
Although the Joint Chief Electoral Officer, Manipur directed Moirang SDO/Returning Officer to take disqualification procedures against MLA Mairenbam Prithiviraj, no official process has been initiated till date.
Meanwhile, BJP Manipur Unit has demanded that either Parliamentary Secretary (YAS) M Prithiviraj resign from his post or the State Government sack him for submitting erroneous affidavit.
M Prithiviraj who contested in the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly election of 2012 on Congress ticket in 27 Moirang AC submitted an affidavit to the Moirang Returning Officer claiming that he passed MBA from Mysore University in 2003-04 .
Speaking to media persons at their office today, BJP spokesman Y Nillamani said that a rival candidate lodged a complaint to the RO against the misleading affidavit submitted by Prithiviraj.
However, no further action was taken up by the RO which prompted the rival candidate to file an RTI application.
Through the RTI application, it was learnt that Prithiviraj never studied under Mysore University.
As directed by the Election Commission of India, the Joint Chief Election Officer Manipur sent a written intimation to the Moirang RO on April 18 this year to initiate necessary steps for disqualification of M Prithiviraj.
However, no official procedures has been initiated nor any report given till date.
Submission of erroneous affidavit and claiming oneself to be well educated by a man contesting election is punishable under the Representation Act, Nillamani said.
As the case is being investigated as a part of disqualification process, MLA Prithiviraj should resign from his post otherwise the Government should remove him from his post, demanded the BJP spokesman.
BJP media in-charge Robin Blackie closure of oil pumps because there is highway blockade for two/three days only exposed the weakness and inefficacy of the incumbent Government.
