CRPF man killed in Ukhrul ambush

Imphal, January 27, 2012:
A CRPF personnel has been killed and two injured in an ambush carried out by suspected underground cadres while a person suspected to be a UG cadre was shot dead in a reported encounter with police commandos in a separate incident.
Official source said that some suspected underground cadres attacked a team of 173 CRPF at Kamjong-Konkan diversion area yesterday around 12 noon.
The CRPF team was on their way to Konkan for election duty, added the source.
The attack killed a head constable and injured two personnel in which one Insas Rifle was also taken away by the attackers, it added.
Meanwhile, the proscribed UNLF has claimed responsibility for the attack on the CRPF at Aishi village in Ukhrul district.
A statement issued by senior publicity officer of the group, Ksh Yoheiba informed that the attack was carried out by its armed wing MPA and two CRPF personnel were killed while three others were injured.
The cadres confiscated two Insas Rifles from the CRPF team.
It is further informed that the MPA cadres have reached their camp safely.
In another incident, a combined team of Imphal East and Imphal West police commando killed a person suspected to be an UG cadre in a reported encounter held at Top Yaralpat yesterday at around 8 pm.
A 9mm pistol along with a hand grenade were recovered from the deceased person whose identity has not been established.
