Imphal, May 25 2011:
Peeved over the alleged failure of the State Government to effect the transfer and posting of one Junior MCS officer, Zeliangrong Students' Union, Nungba Area (ZSUNA); Nungba Bazar Board; Pei (Thoubei) Nungba and Nungba Youth Organisation have jointly announced their decision of going ahead with the proposed 24-hour blockade along National Highway 53 with effect from midnight today.
In a joint statement, convenor of ZSUNA Poukhonlung, secretary of Nungba Bazar Board Jamuna Kamei, secretary of Pei (Thoubei) Nungba K Bandai and president of Nungba Youth Organisation Angampou said that a joint memorandum had been submitted to the Chief Minister on May 18 to effect the transfer and posting of SDO/SDM/BDO Nungba Kajaigai Gangmei, Junior MCS within one week.
However, as the Chief Minister has not fulfilled the demand, they have no option but to go ahead with the proposed blockade with effect from midnight of May 25 to midnight of May 26 as a first democratic agitation over the demand.
Appealing to all the people and more particularly the transporters, to extend full co-operation and support, the joint statement has also warned that transporters themselves should be held responsible for any eventuality if they defy the blockade.
The blockade will be relaxed for Medical, water supply, electricity and security.
