Imphal, June 23 2022:
Incensed over the non recruitment of Principals and teachers in colleges where the posts are vacant, the Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) locked the office of Education (U) at Nityaipat Chuthek today.
The incident took place at around 1 pm.
Reportedly, a large number of DESAM volunteers stormed the office of Education (U) and disrupted the meeting of the staff there.
Later, the agitators locked the office and shouted slogans to fill the vacant posts (teachers and Principals) in front of the Education (U) gate.
As soon as the office was locked, a team of State police rushed to the site of the protest, broke the lock and dispersed the agitating DESAM volunteers.
As the DESAM volunteers chanced upon the motorcade escorting Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Tiddim Road when they were heading towards its office, the protesters raised a slogan.
Speaking to the media, DESAM president L Lamyanba said that there are more than 30 colleges which don't have a regular Principal.
Continuing that there is a vacancy of 440 teachers and 1,110 non teaching staff in Government colleges, he urged the State Government to fill the vacant posts at the earliest.
He further stated that the DESAM has been urging the State Government to fill the vacant posts in Government colleges since 2017 .
