Further remand for JAC leaders

Co-convener of the JAC formed in connection with the death of Ningthoujam Babysana, Leishangthem Pratap and executive member of Thangmeiband United Club (TUC), Elangbam Joykumar, were remanded to further judicial custody till September 5, today.
L Pratap and Joykumar were lodged in Manipur Central Jail Sajiwa from August 8 onwards, in connection an FIR taken up by Imphal PS for organizing meira rallies and imposing bandhs.
Back then, the Court had directed the authority concerned to produce the two individuals today in connection with the case but however, the SP of Manipur Central Jail Sajiwa submitted a report that the authorities were unable to produce more than 10 under trial prisoners (including the JAC co convener and the executive member of TUC) before the Court due to the non availability of armed escort and prisoner vans.
It may be mentioned that three women members of the JAC, who were arrested on the charge of imposing bandh and burning down the effigy of Chief Minister N Biren, and 11 others (JAC and TUC members), are also presently lodged in Manipur Central Jail Imphal and Manipur Central Jail Sajiwa respectively.
The three women were earlier remanded till August 23 (tomorrow) while the remaining JAC and TUC members (including the convener) were remanded till August 24 .
