Imphal, September 21 2014:
As in the Kakching Municipal Council by-election, BJP can certainly defeat any candidate fielded by the ruling Congress party in the Hiyanglam by-election, proclaimed a confident BJP State unit spokesman Salam Ibohal.
A get-together function of the BJP State unit was held yesterday at Tunggam village under Mao Assembly Constituency.
The get-together function was organised by BJP State unit executive member Woba Joram.
Speaking at the gathering, S Ibohal said that BJP's popularity has been growing by leaps and bounds and this was testified by the result of the Kakching Municipal Council by-election where the BJP candidate secured a thumping victory over the rival candidate fielded by the ruling Congress party.
BJP would certainly win the Hiyanglam by-election too with a huge margin over all rival candidates including the Congress candidate, he predicted.
Ibohal also appealed to all party workers of both the hills and valley to work tirelessly so that BJP can wrest power from the Congress party in the Autonomous District Council election likely to be held in March 2015 and the Assembly election of 2017 .
There was little progress in terms of implementing development programmes when Congress was in power at the Centre.
"Now we must work together to ensure all the development gaps are plugged in under the new Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi", Ibohal said.
He went to claim that the BJP State unit has been urging the Centre to bring a solution to the political dialogue between Government of India and NSCN-IM.
BJP State unit vice-president I Maniton proposed establishment of booth level committees for Mao A/C as soon as possible so as to further strengthen the party.
Woba Joram confided that the new BJP Government would pay special attention to development deficiency of Manipur, particularly the hill areas.
He also called upon one and all to embark on the path of peace and unity for a progressive society.
Former MLA Henry Paute, BJP State secretary Khadga Tamang and executive member K Saratkumar were also present at the gathering.
