Imphal, August 19, 2012:
Deeply concerned with the mass exodus of North East students from different cities of mainland India, the Manipur Pradesh Youth Trinamool Congress (MPYTC) has decided to go to Guwahati and extend all possible help to the fleeing students.
Speaking to media persons at their New Checkon office today, MPYTC president P Premananda said that the confrontation between Bodos and migrant Bangladeshis in Assam which looked like a communal clash was a very sensitive issue and the Centre should tackle the matter with firm hands without any partiality.
However, the Government of India has not come up with anything concrete measure to restore normalcy.
Such irresponsible attitude of the Government is highly condemnable, he added.
The State Government too need to take up all necessary measures to protect and bring back Manipuri students who have reached Guwahati and are taking refuge there.
The difficulties being encountered by Guwahati city to accommodate all the North Eastern people coming simultaneously from different cities of mainland India is understandable, Premananda said.
Given this harsh situation, the MPYTC, acting on the advice of TMC MLA Thongam Bishwajit has decided to send a team to Guwahati to help Manipuri people returning from different parts of India.
Already, MPYTC general secretary RK Ranjan left for Guwahati this morning to assess the situation there.
People putting up at Guwahati and in need of assistance may contact RK Ranjan on 9436026697 or 9678840456. Vice-presidents RS Ngachonmi and H Dingo would join RK Ranjan tomorrow at Guwahati.
Ngachonmi appealed to the UNC to relax its total bandh in the interest of the students and professionals coming back to their homes from different parts of India.
