Imphal, May 18 2021:
The Rongmei Naga Students Organization Manipur (RNSOM) appealed to banks, landlords and all private money lenders of the State to exempt and waive any form of rent or interest from the tenants and debtors during the difficult time of COVID-19 pandemic.
A press of RNSOM also appealed to all the valley based students organizations to extend cooperation towards the cause.
The organization also sought the attention of the Government in the matter taking into consideration the welfare of the people.
It further maintained that the students especially from hill districts are facing double challenges since most of the parents are marginal farmers, daily wage earners and who do small businesses to earn their livelihood with capital borrowed from private banks and other money lenders.
These sections of people are going through a rough phase due to imposition of curfew and precautionary restrictions by the State to fight against the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic which have deprived them of their major source of income.
The students organization also expressed concern that many traders and shopkeepers have created fake scarcity and have hiked the prices of essential commodities taking advantage of the restrictions enforced by the State which have added more woes to the already suffering locals.
Therefore RNSOM urged the Government to closely monitor such malpractices before the CSOs take law into their hands.
Further the Rongmei Naga Students Organization Manipur appealed to the Government to monitor the activities of the departments concerned and agents responsible for rice distribution to the public to ensure fair and equal distribution across the State so that the rice reaches the rightful beneficiaries.
