Senapati, May 17 2022:
People of Mayangkhang villagers residing near NH-2 where a road widening work is going on decried the alleged inaction of the NHIDCL inspite of repeated reminders to construct the retaining walls properly.
Some 10 houses including living rooms, kitchen, granary and one house under construction sank recently, compelling the house owners to evacuate to safer places.
Reportedly, some portion of the Inter Village Road which was constructed in the area recently has also sunk.
An elderly woman whose house was damaged in land sinking said that improper construction of the retaining walls is greatly affecting many families in the area.
Saying that many families have shifted to a safer place in fear of their lives, she added that her kitchen was swept away by the recent landslide.
Reportedly, the locals of Mayangkhang had appealed to the NHIDCL to finish the project before the onset of the monsoon season to avoid any untoward incident in the area.
As the rain hasn't stopped since the past few days, landslides have been occurring from time to time and it has damaged over 10 houses in the area so far.
The adverse condition of the people there has been intensified by the construction of retaining walls without maintaining quality as cracks have already developed in some portions.
The village elder appealed to the authority concerned to look into the matter at the earliest.
