District action plans discussed

Imphal, June 15 2011:
In connection with the election to the Manipur Legislative Assembly due sometime next year, the Chief Electoral Officer of Manipur today convened and presided over a joint meeting with Deputy Commissioners/ DEOs and entrusted the DCs/DEOs with the job of preparing the respective district election plans.
During the meeting held in the conference hall of Old Secretariat, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) PC Lawmkunga entrusted the Deputy Commissioners to prepare the election plans of their respective districts well in advance so as to ensure smooth conduct of the election.
The election plans are to be prepared along with proper identification of the places susceptible to poll related violence and pose challenges from the security point of view and to submit the same to the CEO.
Among other issues, today's meeting also deliberated on ensuring completion of the Photo Electoral Roll preparation ahead of the next election, rationalisation of the polling stations and setting up helpline or call centres to redress the grievances of the voters.
Manipur is likely to go to polls in the early part of next year, most probably in February.
Other States which will go to polls along with Manipur are Goa, Gujarat, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
A joint meeting of the CEOs was held on June 9 .
