Imphal, March 15 2022:
State Nodal Officer (Immunization) Dr T Manihar has informed that a Covid vaccination programme for children aged 12 to 14 years will begin tomorrow in Manipur as in other parts of the country.
Addressing the media at the office of Family Welfare Department today, Dr Manihar continued that the vaccination programme for the children in the aforementioned age group will be launched in every district at 10.30 am.
Saying that Corbevax vaccine which will be administered to children is safe and offers high antibody levels, he said that the vaccine has been approved by the Drug Regulatory Board for emergency as it has negligible chances of developing side effects.
Claiming that Corbevax offers better immunity against COVID-19 as compared to Covishield and Covaxin, Dr T Manihar informed that children above 14 years, however, have to take a Covaxin shot.
Two doses of Corbevax vaccine would be administered to the beneficiaries at an interval of 28 days, he said and informed that the district authorities can take the Covid vaccine from the Directorate of Social Welfare.
State Mission Director of National Health Mission Dr N Shyamjai also urged the eligible population of Manipur to get themselves vaccinated against COVID-19 so as to defeat the pandemic.
There is no shortage of Covid vaccine in Manipur, he informed.
