Delhi cops review safety steps

Top Delhi police officials held its first ever review of safety measures with NE communities today afternoon.
Under the standing order no 383/2012 "Tackling the problems faced by Students & Others from NE states In Delhi" the Police have been conducting a massive drive of "Zero Tolerance" against crimes on NE people.
The recent case of the death of Arunachal student Nido Tania and the subsequent public uproar in early February have kept the Police on their toes.
Joint Commissioners (Law and Order) and several police officials of Delhi, NE youths, professionals were present.
Nodal Police Officer for NE, Robin Hibu, told the gathering today that no stones are left unturned.
He assured "we are consistently pursuing and monitoring cases pertaining to NE.
we will bring them into a logical conclusion" .
Hibu said special cell for NE in Nanakpura (south Delhi) under a DCP is made functional.
He also mentioned other mandatory order of Delhi police such as dropping of BPO employees till the doorstep, training/sensitization of Delhi police etc.

As per the Police data between February 13 until May 9 this year, a total of 252 cases related to NE were registered with the police.
Out of the total cases, maximum complaints were cyber crime that made upto 78.While 70 cases were of eve teasing and 63 cases were of threats to kill, intimidation.
Social media like whatsapp, sms, have been utilized to the maximum for spreading alert and awareness.
In addition a new "Facebook- Delhi Police for NE folks" was launched today.
This according to the Nodal police officer was for maximum outreach to the NE youths whom he said 99 percent are social media users.
Youth volunteers, individuals, student leaders, who have relentlessly worked with the police in fighting crime against north east people were also awarded with a token of appreciation, and included police officers of several ranks.
In the later part of the day, the Police Officers of the Law and Order Department spent time for a question and answer � interactions with the north east representatives.
On a personal note, Robin Hibu candidly spoke about the need for NE populations to reach out to the local populations in terms of building friendships and social interactions.
He said "do not live in a cocoon" .
While accepting that there are "perceptions and misperceptions" which according to him is "ignorance", the Police Officer from Arunachal Pradesh, who has been at the receiving end of all the issues, and called himself a "scape-goat" strongly emphasised on learning language and interacting with "other" communities.
