Imphal, July 07 2021:
On the eve of its 10th foundation day, the Coordination Committee (CorCom) has extended revolutionary greetings to all the revolutionary groups and the people of Manipur and WESEA region.
A press communique signed by M Sak-hen, media co-ordinator CorCom, also extended condolence to those who have lost family members to COVID-19.Applauding the role of doctors, nurses and medical practitioners in their spirited fight against the Covid pandemic, the committee asserted that the commitment of doctors and nurses to save lives during this time of difficulty will be remembered eternally in the history of Kangleipak.
The rapid spread of COVID-19 at Myanmar with which Manipur shares an inseparable bond since ancient time is saddening, the communique said and expressed optimism that the situation will soon return to normal gradually.
Stating that people of Kangleipak are today hit hard by the Covid pandemic as the place faces inadequacies on many fronts, CorCom said that Manipur losing many notable figures and thousands of lives including children to the pandemic is regrettable.
Truthfully speaking, people of Kangleipak are today bearing the brunt of the Government's negligence to take the disease seriously in the first place, it charged and maintained that the Covid situation might have been different had the Government taken up prompt actions when the virus first emerged.
Instead of improving healthcare infrastructure and ramping up preparations for the second wave at a time when the first wave was ebbing, the Centre focused on spreading propaganda of its achievements in fighting the pandemic, CorCom rued and charged that more than 4 lakh Indians have lost their lives due to flaws in handling the pandemic.
The press release claimed that the Centre is deliberately concealing the genuine figure of death due to Covid to hide its flaws in handling the pandemic and asked who will take responsibility for these mass deaths.
Were they treated properly at Government hospitals when they were alive, CorCom asked.
Saying that the Government should take responsibility for the huge number of deaths, CorCom alleged that the Centre is considering to compensate those who died due to their oversight only after the direction of the Supreme Court came.
Holding Kumbh Mela and Assembly elections in certain States were also one of the factors for the surge of Covid figures in India, asserted CorCom.
Continuing that the Covid is triggering economic crises across the globe and this will continue as long as the pandemic prevails, the statement opined that the skyrocketing prices of fuel and other essentials prices are aggravating the woes of the people.
The worst affected by the pandemic are the students, CorCom mentioned and asserted that many students from remote areas not able to attend online classes as they cannot afford mobile phones or computers.
Online classes only seem to widen the gap between the students from rich and poor background, CorCom alleged and continued, 'though online classes is beneficial to section of students, it has become a source of discrimination for many'.
Asserting that a concerted effort is required to defeat the pandemic, CorCom added that vaccinating only the population of certain rich countries will not be effective in exterminating the disease as the virus can emerge again from anywhere.
Continuing that the World Health Organisation (WHO) is pressing the countries to vaccinate at least 10% of the population by September, 40% by the end of 2021 and 70% by the middle of next year, CorCom pointed out that many countries not vaccinating the vulnerable group in large scale till date is terrifying.
This vast inequities in the access to vaccines are fuelling a two-track pandemic, it opined.
Over 1,200 Covid deaths have been reported in the State, said CorCom and continued that the State is targeting to inoculate 19.85 lakh people of Manipur by December 31, 2021.However, as the pace of vaccination in Manipur is slow, it is doubtful that the target set will be accomplished, claimed CorCom.
As the second wave of the pandemic arrived earlier than expected due to rapid mutation of the virus, the lives of people were put in a difficult position, said CorCom and asserted that vaccinating people alone cannot defeat the pandemic.
Upgrading the health infrastructure is equally important, it added.
India claiming to be well prepared for the third wave is an attempt to throw dust on the eyes of the people as apart from having poor healthcare infrastructure, India spends only 1.26% of its GDP on the health sector.
The Government giving contradictory statements on the Covid situation here and political leaders heading poll related activities by violating the SOPs for Covid is regrettable, said CorCom and urged the people not to be caught in the Indian elections as it cannot decide the fate of Manipur.
If we are not careful now, the situation might become more difficult in future, cautioned CorCom and appealed to the people of Manipur to defeat the pandemic.
CorCom, on the other hand, said that the revolutionary movement of Manipur is very similar to that of Palestine.
The major milestone achieved in the revolutionary movements of Palestine is the formation of Palestine National Council (PNC) in 1964 at Cairo, under which a collective freedom struggle of Palestinians was carried out from May 28 of the same year onwards, added CorCom.
This formation of PNC gave new hope to the Palestinians who dream of independence, continued CorCom.
It also said that many revolutionary groups in Manipur are able to operate under a single platform due to their steadfast stand for independence and love for the motherland.
Had these groups forgotten their purpose, this committee might have not existed today, added CorCom.
Saying that the need of the hour is to liberate Manipur from colonial India, CorCom added that only through independence Manipuris can be saved from extinction.
It then appealed to all to contribute their share in the struggle to save Manipur.
