Ukhrul protests abduction of truck driver

Ukhrul, April 07 2016:
Strongly condemning the abduction of truck driver PA Chinaoshang on March 3 from a makeshift camp at Sinakeithei/Shongbel, Ukhrul by unidentified persons for ransom, a sit in protest was held today at Gandhi Chowk, Phungereitang, Ukhrul, demanding his immediate release.
Simultaneously, the Tangkhul Naga Long TNL convened an emergency assembly in connection with the abduction of Chinaoshang of Shimtang village, Ukhrul.
Besides condemning the abduction, the assembly endorsed the resolutions adopted after the co-ordination meeting of all Tangkhul Zonal leaders headed by TNL president Weapon Zimik at his office yesterday.
According to the resolutions, if the driver is not released before the deadline of April 10, the responsible group/individual will be held accountable for any untoward incident.
P Luiyi w/o of Chinaoshang gave a detailed account of the abduction and added that her husband was threatened and warned not to transport construction material by an unidentified youth.
The same day he was picked up from the makeshift camp at Sinakeithei/Shingbel village at around 11 pm .
She appealed for the immediate release of her husband and urged the abductors to spell out the reasons for the abduction.
During the meeting representatives from Sinakeithei village also mentioned that a phone call was received from the group asking them to arrange the ransom for his release.
Representatives from all Tangkhul social organizations participated in the sit-in protest and assured to extend all support to secure the release of Chinaoshang.
They also demanded immediate arrest of the miscreants.
Headman of Epchan Seikhor village said nothing is yet known about the abducted driver even after more than a month of his abduction.
A joint memorandum jointly signed by all Tangkhul social organization chairmen, headmen including TNL president Weapon Zimik was submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul demanding immediate rescue of Chinaoshang and to arrest the miscreants/abductors without further delay as well as to extend financial assistance to the family since he is the sole bread earner.
