Pre-poll crackdown SF arrests two CorCom cadres

A combined team of Imphal West commando and troops of 9 Sector Assam Rifles have arrested two cadres of PLA, a front liner of CorCom, who allegedly involved in the planning to attack Congress candidates.
Addressing a press conference held today at the commando complex, Addl SP Imphal West, Isaac Shah said that the PLA cadres were arrested during a joint operation launched to control the attacks carried by CorCom to the Congress candidates.
He maintained that three counter insurgency operations were launched in the general areas of Keishamthong, Singjamei and Thongju during last 24 hours.
A self styled second lieutenant and a cadre of PLA identified as Athokpam Surchandra (41) alias Ningthou alias Chaothoi of Thongju Part II and Laishram Imocha (45) alias Ibungochouba of Singjamei Thongam Leikai were arrested during the said operations, he added.
One lathode gun, five lathode shells, two 9 mm pistols, one Chinese hand grenade with a detonator, one spent cartridge of lathode shell, 32 live round of .45 and 259 live rounds of 9 mm were seized from the arrested cadres.
The Addl SP further informed that Surchandra is working under the command of one self styled captain Koireng of Langmeidong who works as a Imphal area Division IV secretary of RPF.
Spot verification of Surchandra further disclosed that the arms and ammunition were handed over to him by an unknown man and woman some weeks ago to carry out attacks to Congress candidates under the command of Koireng.
Isaac Shah also mentioned that Surchandra has been sent out from Bangladesh to perform the task some 15 days ago.
The operations were effectively carried out in the said areas with strong public supports, he added.
