Murder of Pampha Rai Highway bandh draws to a close

The 24-hour bandh clamped on NH-2 (Imphal-Dimapur road) by the JAC constituted against the death of Pampha Rai has ended without any unwanted incident at 6 pm today.
Locals and JAC members blocked NH-2 at Mantripukhri for some time by forming human chains.
However, police pacified the bandh supporters and prevented them from indulging in any violent activity.
Later, the bandh supporters staged their demonstration against the 'murder' of Pampha Rai by blocking one side of the highway.
They however allowed movement of vehicles on another side of the road.
The bandh supporters demanded befitting punishment of the accused and his family members.
They also said that they would extend support to any agitation initiated by the JAC regarding the incident.
Meanwhile, a statement issued by the JAC constituted against the death of Pampha Rai said that the JAC staged a sit-in-protest at Mantripukhri.
Later, the protesters took out a rally on NH-2 towards Sangakpham, the statement said and added that the rallyists were blocked by police at Sangakpham.
During the agitation, all the shops remained shut at Mantripukhri, added the statement.
It may be mentioned Pampha Rai was found dead inside a room in Venus Hotel, Churachandpur after she checked in to the hotel with a man identified as P Jameson from Langjing Achouba on April 2 .
A large number of people tried to dismantle the house of Jameson at Langjing Achouba yesterday.
In a public meeting, locals of Langjing Achouba had decided to banish Jameson and his family from their locality.
Langjing locals also resolved to give the same punishment to the individuals or family who give shelter to Jameson and his family.
They also decided to extend support to any agitation initiated by the JAC regarding the incident.
The public meeting was jointly organized by Langjing Achouba Development Committee, Langjing Achouba Women Welfare Association and Western Star Club.
