Imphal, April 05 2020:
The Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has categorically asked all truckers and transporters plying on National High-ways not to bring in non-local people to the State amidst the panicky situation and lockdown triggered by COVID-19 and resultant shortage of many essential commodities.
In a message addressed to the public, particularly truckers and transporters through social media, JCILPS convenor YK Dhiren, nonetheless, conveyed gratitude to all truckers and transporters who have been shipping essential commodities from outside the State under the prevailing critical situation.
He then appealed to all transporters not to bring in unknown non-local people who can be either COVID-19 positive or negative.
Bringing in non-local people to the State under the prevailing situation for petty personal gains would turn out to be disastrous for Manipuri society, Dhiren said.
He pointed out that the State Government had suspended issuance of Inner Line Permits as well as all inter-State passenger services ahead of the country-wide lockdown.
It is a matter of grave concern that many non-local people brought by truckers were detected and sent back from Mao Gate by police, said the JCILPS convenor.
He also appealed to all local clubs, Meira Paibis and other organisations to inform Government authorities or JCILPS in case they detect or see new faces of non-local people in their respective localities.
