Imphal, June 01 2023:
Voluntary Help Unit Committee (VHUC) of RIMS Hospital has appealed to the Manipur Government to take up necessary initiatives to make sure every victim of the ethnic clash gets a treatment facility at the healthcare institute without any disturbances and problems.
It may be mentioned that VHUC was formed to provide medical assistance to individuals injured during the June 2001 movements.
Speaking to media persons at RIMS today, medical in-charge of VHUC Thongam Ashnikumar said that they face difficulties in taking medicines for emergency surgeries and treatments for patients with bullet injuries and displaced folks at relief camps.
Saying that taking medicines and materials for orthopaedic implants for these patients takes a long process as most of them don't possess any identity cards, Ashnikumar continued that majority of the people at relief camps also don't bring other belongings other than the clothes they wear.
Further stating that people with bullet wounds often require orthopaedic surgery and it costs around Rs 30,000 on average, he appealed to the Government to make sure materials for emergency operation are available adequately.
He went on to state that about 200 persons who got injured in the ethnic clash have been admitted to RIMS alone while 62 of them are still at the hospital.
Saying that there are not many empanelled pharmacies where medicines can be procured with heath cards in and around RIMS and closure of these pharmacies early is problematic, Ashnikumar urged the Government to allow these pharmacies to open till late hours.
He also appealed to the people of Manipur to not obstruct the movement of ambulances.
