Dimapur, April 30 2017:
The Nagaland unit of BJP in its 5th State Executive Meeting in Kohima has resolved to "safeguard the Christian faith" .
In a press release, the BJP, Nagaland unit said that many "members expressed shock and unhappiness that some speakers in Churches and conventions had spoken about their doubt on the secular credentials of the BJP from the pulpits" .
The statement of the saffron party said that "the sanctity of Churches and believers not to doubt the secular credentials nor be a part of the political propaganda, but realize the reality of acute underdevelopment in the State and be appreciative of the genuine efforts of the party and Government to bring development to all.
"The BJP being a secular political party with an agenda for development of the Nation with special focus on North East, the BJP Nagaland urge to continue support to the secular credentials and programmes of the BJP under Modi", it added.
The BJP, Nagaland unit expressed continued support to the Naga peace process and urged the Central Government to expedite peace talk.
Meanwhile, the Naga People's Front (NPF) has said that Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) will form the next Government in Nagaland again.
The State of Nagaland goes to poll early next year.
"The party rank and file of the NPF remains steadfast under the leadership of party president Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu and we do not have an iota of doubt that the NPF-led DAN shall form the next Government after the elections in 2018," the NPF statement added.
It appealed to the public not to be swayed by "absurd political propaganda spread by politically-vested interests" .
On the reported resignation of Chingwang Konyak, ex Member of Parliament and former Political Advisor to the Chief Minister Nagaland, the NPF said, "The fact of the matter is that he is not a member of the NPF party and therefore, his resignation from the party is ridiculous and can only be attributed to his desire for cheap publicity and to create confusion in the minds of the people" .
The statement said, "This is on expected lines since it has become obvious that some politically frustrated individuals have been doing some ground works to form a new political party for some time now having exhausted all means trying to destabilize the NPF-led DAN Government and damage the NPF party itself" .
According to NPF, in a democratic set up "such as ours", anyone can start a political party and participate in the democratic process.
"But it is most unbecoming of a person of the stature of the ex-MP to stoop so low as to resign from a party he never belonged to for the sake of a few brownie points in the media.
Anyhow, with elections less than a year away, it shall not be very surprising to find in the local newspapers resignations of few disgruntled individuals and political opportunists in the days to come", it added.
