Grenades : Style statement of many UGs

Suspected armed cadres of the Naga UG group, GPRN left a hand grenade at the residence of a Professor working in Manipur University.
On the other hand, a protest demonstration was staged at Kwakeithel today decrying yesterday's bomb attack by unidentified armed persons at the residence of a headmaster of a Primary school.
The headmaster sustained injuries in the attack that occurred late evening yesterday.
Suspected armed cadres of GPRN cadres left the hand grenade at the Langthabal Kunja Awang Leikai residence of Oinam Imocha (57), who is a Professor in the Computer Science Department of Manipur University at around 7.30 pm last Monday.
The bomb was found lying near the veranda of the house and was subsequently retrieved by the bomb experts of the State Police Department.
It is said that at around 4 pm of March 12, one unidentified youth reportedly came to the house and handed over a demand note of Rs 3 lakh in the name of GPRN to Indira Devi, wife of the Professor, saying it was an invitation card.
Along with the demand note, there was one bullet and a mobile phone number inside the envelope.
After this incident, another demand note of the outfit was found lying near the residential gate of the Professor on March 22 .
The second demand note threatened the Professor to pay Rs 6 lakh, double the amount of what was demanded earlier, on alleged charge of not heeding the earlier demand.
After these, the hand grenade was left in the evening last Monday to further pressurise the Professor.
In protest against such threats, members of youth clubs in Langthabal Kunja area namely UC, DLC and UPWA and local Meira Paibis bodies staged a Wakat Meepham at Kiyamgei Pal Ahanbi today.
Similar, protest demonstration was also staged by the staff and students of Computer Science Department, Manipur University inside the University campus today.
On the other hand, decrying the incident of bomb attack by unidentified armed persons at the Kwakeithel Awang Thiyam Leikai residence of Laishram Ratan (42), who is the headmaster of Kwakeithel Laishram Leikai Primary School, last evening, people of the locality staged a protest demonstration at Kwakeithel today.
Ratan sustained injuries in the attack that took place at around 7 pm yesterday.
Ratan was drawing water from a nearby water storage tank when the hand grenade hurled by unidentified armed persons landed near the veranda of the house and exploded.
He was hit by bomb splinters all over behind his back and is currently undergoing treatment at RIMS.
The demonstrators demanded to know the UG group responsible and the motive behind the attack.
The family members have already clarified that they have not received any monetary demand or threat from any UG group.
