Carrying forward the public de- mand for peace and complete removal of AFSPA from Manipur, a cycle rally was taken out from Sagol-mang Bazar to Yumnam Khunou today.
A large of people drawn from various parts of Khu-ndrakpam and Saikul A/C took part in the cycle rally organised under the aegis of Loijing Loya Apunba Lup, Chingkhu.
The rally-ists carried placards and banners with demand for lifting of black laws and denouncing excesses of the security personnel.
The cycle rally was flagged off from Sagolmang Bazar at around 10 am and snaked through places like Keibi, Sawombung, Waiton and Pangei before con- verging at Yumnam Khunou where a public meting was held later in the afternoon.
After a detailed discussion on the prevailing si- tuation in Manipur, the meeting unanimously resolved for putting pressure on the Government for complete lifting of AFSPA and punishment of AR personnel responsible for the killing of Thangjam Mano-rama and Saichang village pastor Jamkholet Khongsai in the interest of restoring peace and normalcy.
Demanding resignation of all the MLAs and Ministers if they could not work in the interest of the people, the meeting resolved to submit memorandum to Government of India, Government of Manipur and other Foreign countries� Embassies and world bodies to draw the attention of the International Community to the public demand for scrapping draconian laws and Acts.
The meeting further resolved to urged the Govt for taking up steps to bring various underground organisations to negotiating table for talks to end the decades old insurgency problems as well as for releasing all the public leaders who have been detained under NSA.
The gathering also paid homage to Chittaranjan and Memita who sacrificed their lives for the cause of the people.
