Imphal, July 30:
Coming down strongly on the Governments order to close down all the educational institutions and prevent students from taking part in the ongoing mass movement, Manipur University Students Union (MUSU) has appealed to all the educational institutions, teachers and students to defy the order and resume normal classes from tomorrow.
The State Government had declared holiday for three days for all the schools/colleges located in Imphal East and West Districts as well as in Bishnupur district.
In a statement, MUSU president H Ashirjit Luwang denounced the Governments order as anti-student and said it amounts to curtailing the rights to education of the students.
Such repressive measures adopted by the Govt would also have an adverse impact on the efforts to improve the education system in the State, he noted, and appealed to all the students and teachers to defy the Government order and start resuming normal classes from tomorrow.
The MUSU president further asserted that none of the student has resorted to violence activists during the course of the ongoing public movement for revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act from Manipur.
In a joint statement, DESAM, Bishnupur District Council, AMSU, Bishnupur District Committee and MSF, Bishnupur District Council observed that the move of the Government would only invite the wrath of the student community.
Such dictatorial attitude of the Government should be denounced, the joint statement said appealing to all the authorities of educational institutions both private and Government located in Bishnupur district to resume normal classes from tomorrow.
The joint statement also warned of closing down all those educational institutions which do not resume classes from tomorrow.
AISF, Bishnupur district council, in another statement, maintained that declaration of holiday for three days by the Government is unreasonable and it would not be able to suppress the movement of the people.
