Imphal, March 30 2014:
Noting that the BJP Manipur Pradesh manifesto for the 16th Lok Sabha election have different agenda/visions for the two Parliamentary constituencies in the hill and valley districts, MPCC president and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam said such incongruities clearly testify divisive policy of the BJP.
Speaking at a block level meeting for the upcoming Lok Sabha election at Thangmeiband Hijam Leikai today, Gaikhangam said only a glance into the State unit BJP's manifesto is enough to understand that the BJP is not committed to strengthen the age-old relationship between the hill and valley people.
Rather the BJP vision document substantiates the people's apprehension that the saffron party would not relent from driving wedges amongst the ethnic communities for some political mileage, said the DyCM while appealing to the BJP to abstain from all activities that could create tension in the society.
Observing that during elections the number of political parties increases sharply even though these pseudo-political organisations would have no record to prove their existence before the democratic exercise, he called upon the people to be wary of such groups and their nominees.
While it has become customary for the Opposition parties to make baseless charges against the Congress during election campaigns, track record will definitely be evidence that the Congress-led UPA Government had launched and implemented a number of welfare schemes for the people.
Contrary to a number of flagship programmes executed by the UPA I & II Government the Opposition continues to make irrelevant accusations, he said while asserting that if the charges could be proved the Congress party would be more than willing to book and try the guilty ones under the law of the land.
Reacting against the Opposition leaders accusing Lok Sabha MP Dr Th Meinya of being incompetent and betraying the people during his two-term stint in the Parliament, Gaikhangam said development programmes implemented in Manipur is due to the initiative taken by Dr Meinya.
Taking into account various welfare schemes launched in the State time has come for the people to re-elect Dr Meinya and facilitate his inclusion in the Union cabinet, said the DyCM.
The meeting organised by Thangmeiband Block Congress Committee at the residence of MPCC secretary Jyotin Waikhom was also attended by Dr Meinya, MPCC general secretary Vidyapati Senjam, IMC Vice Chairperson Thambaljao Phaomei, IMC Appointment Committee Chairperson Soraisam Binarani Devi and Block Congress president Thangjam Ibotombi Singh.
