Six student organisations have urged the State Government to implement the National Register of Citizens, establish a Manipur Population Commission and take legal action against the illegal immigrants residing in the State.

In a joint statement, the student organisations said Manipur is a State which had already witnessed numerous movements to save the indigenous people.
Saying that the indigenous people of Manipur will surely be overwhelmed by illegal immigrants coming from various part of India and countries such as Myanmar, Nepal and Bangladesh if the Government remains indifferent, the statement urged the State Government to take up necessary actions so as to save the State and her people from 'those who openly challenge our identity through concocted history" .
It also urged the State Government to establish a Population Commission and its monitoring committee at both district and State level so as to study the changing demography of Manipur and implement NRC with a specific base year to deport the illegal immigrant.
