Two doctors of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Dr Manihar and Dr Ksh Kala who conducted surgery upon the three injured persons of the 2009 July 23 episode, submitted their statements on Monday to the PG Agarwal Inquiry Commission.
Manipur erupted erupted in flame and the state adminstration had to impose curfew for several days after two persons were killed and five others injured in an alleged fake encounter.
On Monday, both the doctors mentioned in their statements that the firing seemed to have occurred from a close distance after they conducted surgery upon the patients.
Dr Manihar said in the statement that he conducted operation upon one N.keshorani Devi (40) on August last.
Her lower limp was injured.
However, she was being referred to another hospital owing to the non availability of the facility in the hospital.
She was later transferred to Shija Hospitals where she was operated upon, added Dr.Manihar.
In the statement of Dr.Ksh.
Kala Singh who is working as an associate professor in the cardio vascular and thoracic surgery department, RIMS, the doctor said that he had operated upon one Pangambam Lukhoi Singh.
He was also referred to other hospital owing to the non availability of facility at RIMS.
He was later operated in Shija Hospitals where the bullet was removed from the right atrium.
Meanwhile, the P.G Agarwal Inquiry Commission on Monday asked A.K Jhalajit, additional superintendent of police, Imphal West district to submit a fresh report of the July 23 incident on or before next hearing.
The P.G commission also rejected the report submitted by the OC of city police.
The next hearing is scheduled on April 15 .
It is worth mentioning that the P.G Inquiry Commission, one man commission led by retired Justice of Gauhati High Court was initiated on August 27 last year under the instruction of the state government to investigate on the shoot-out incident of Khwairamban Bazar on July 23 where two people were killed and five others injured in the incident.
