Imphal, January 29 2020:
The proscribed United National Liberation Front (UNLF) has alleged that there is widespread corruption in implementation of 'Lamjing Maheikol' scheme 2017-18 for Wangoi Zone.
The MHRD sponsored scheme implemented by the SSA Manipur is filled with irregularities and other ills.
In a statement issued to the media today, UNLF alleged that there is deep rooted corruption and other malaises afflicting education at its grassroot levels.
Giving point by point allegations, the outfit charged that the scheme was poorly implemented in the Wangoi Zone as per the investigation it conducted.
A total of 90 schools were selected under the scheme including 10 from Wangoi Zone - Chajing Mairenkhong UPS (Upper Primary School), Haoreibi Jr HS, Phoubakchao HS, Shamushang Shantipur UPS, Yumnam Huidrom HS, Langthabal Phuramakhong UPS, Sekmaijin HS, Khagemba Jr HS, Malom Megha HS and Irom Meijrao New Public School.
And the total amount sanctioned for the 10 school of Wangoi was Rs 21,53,000 (Rs 2,15,300 per school), claimed the outfit alleging that the works taken up at the schools do not match the amount sanctioned.
Accusing the officials/individuals concerned of corruption, the outfit claimed that the schools never received the amounts sanctioned in full.
Even, the heads of the schools have 'no idea' how much was sanctioned, it added.
The investigation conducted at the schools also gave light to the gross irregularities, it said claiming that the expenditure statements, relevant documents and statements of the schools heads do not match the amount spent under the schemes.
The scheme was implemented with Wangoi ZEO as the implementing agency, it said further alleging that the schools selection was not done in a transparent manner.
Applications were not invited from the heads of the schools.
The ZEO selected the schools at its whim, the outfit claimed.
