Phouden Muslim Action Committee Against Ceasefire Extension in Manipur, an umbrella organization of nine voluntary organizations of Thoubal Phouden area including the Students� Relief Campaign Committee staged a protest rally against the truce extension today.
The Yairipok police, however, denied any rally under its jurisdiction.
It said Thoubal police dispersed a group of demonstrators at Kshetri Leikai.
As per Muslim religious practices hundred gathered from 4.30 am onwards and observed a fifteen minute silent prayer for the 14 persons killed in the June 18 uprising and for the injured.
The rally started after the silent prayer at about 6.30 am.
Hundreds of women, students and people from all walks of life participated in the rally.
They carried placards reading, �We don�t agree to ceasefire extension to Manipur�, �We are ready to lay down our lives for the territorial integrity of Manipur�, Hill and valley people are same, lets jointly save the boundary of our State� etc.
a dharna was later staged at Phouden but Thoubal police dispersed the people and confiscated a number of articles used by the protestors.
Singjamei Kshetri Women�s Development Association also staged a dharna on June 23 from 1 pm till 6 pm to protest against the ceasefire extension and to mourn the demise of 14 persons on June 18 and to pray for those admitted to hospital.
The Wangkhei Keithel Ashangbi Nupee Marup staged a dharna today.
The Konung Leikai Nupi Lup put up black flags and staged a sit-in-protest against the decision of the Centre to extend the ceasefire to Manipur.
Various organizations, voluntary organizations, clubs and meira paibis of Waikhong area staged a rally on June 21 against the ceasefire extension to Manipur.
