Imphal, October 26:
The Officer in-Charge of City Police, Imphal RK Khomdonsana today testified before the Upendra Commission of Judicial Inquiry at Kuki Inn in Imphal in connection with the July 20 incident during the anti-ceasefire extension movement.
In his testimony, Khomdonsana said he put up many strong security barricades near Uripok Traffic Island since early morning of the fateful day.
Two executive magistrates of Imphal West, L Kirankumar and T Joymati Devi were present.
Students who had come to surrender their text books to Governor Ved Marwah to protest the cease fire extension forced their way upto Shamu Makhong, he said.
The protest was organized by AMSU.
Khomdonsana claimed that he dispersed the approaching students by resorting to lathi-charge and firing tear-gas shells after taking the permission of L Kirankumar.
Indefinite curfew was clamped from 2.20 pm on the day, he added.
At around 3 pm on the day, some anti-ceasefire agitators were seen coming towards the Uripok Traffic Island from Uripok side.
The CRPF personnel at the area fired some rounds in self-defence when some of the agitators allegedly attempted to snatch an SLR from one of the personnel.
The OC however denied having witnessed the actual incident.
All the counsels of the UCM, police, CRPF and victims cross-examined OC Khomdonsana.
