Imphal, August 26 2015:
A tense situation has gripped two neighbouring villages after three houses were dismantled and pushed down into Leimatak river at Toushang Khunou under Khoupum sub-division in Tamenglong district.
A police team led by the OC of Khoupum police station and a media team visited Toushang Khunou yesterday.
Out of the three dismantled houses, all the construction materials of two houses were found pushed down into Leimatak river and the third house was seen razed to the ground.
Even as the team of media persons and police made an attempt to assess the situation, a heated argument broke out between two groups of villagers.
The two parties mollified a little only at the intervention of the OC.
According to some villagers of Toushang Khunou, some villagers of Toushang Khullen encroached into the land of Toushang Khunou and constructed houses.
The encroachment was objected by the village chief and Meira Paibis and the houses were dismantled.
On the other hand, Toushang Village Authority chairman G Lanamei said that the plot where the three houses were constructed belongs to former Tamenglong ADC Chairman G Soihem.
The house were constructed there with the permission of the villagers of Toushang Khullen.
House owners as well as villagers of Toushang Khullen were enraged when around 20 people dismantled the three houses and pushed down all construction materials of two houses into Leimatak river on August 23 .
Earlier on August 27, 2013, 13 houses built at the same area were dismantled and pushed down into Leimatak river by Tamjanglung, Gaiganglung and their supporters.
In connection with the dismantling of the 13 houses, a special Court issued warrant of arrest against 24 people, Lanamei said.
He also expressed keen desire to deploy security forces in the area as there is a strong possibility of violent confrontation between the two neighbouring villages.
