Imphal, June 23 2020:
The United Association of Recognized Schools of Manipur (UARSoM) has appealed authorities concerned to revoke/withdraw the order of the Commissioner (Education) which directed private schools to pay salary to teaching/non-teaching staff without collecting tuition fees from students.
Speaking to media persons at Kindergarten Montessori School at Takyel Kolom Leikai, UARSoM secretary L Joy said private schools have no means to pay the April to July salaries of the staff without collecting tuition fees from the students.
Acknowledging that all including parents and guardians of students are facing immense hardship due to coronavirus pandemic and lockdown, he said the private schools too are facing problems and they will not be able to pay the salary of the staff if they don't collect the tuition fees.
Reacting to argument that the teachers' salary could be paid with the fund schools get from students' admission, he said COVID-19 has impeded admission process this year and many of the schools are yet to start the enrolment process.
Stating that the UARSoM had earlier sought the attention of the Education Minister and Department concerned and highlighted their grievances on the issue, he said there is no change in the stand of the association.
For the schools to pay at least 50 percent of the salary of the teaching and non-teaching staff, the students should be encouraged to pay 50 percent of the tuition fees, he said adding the schools can collect the tuition fees after the COVID-19 lockdown ends.
Appealing the authorities concerned to withdraw the order, he also sought the State Government's attention for smooth admission process of students to Class XI.
UARSoM vice president P Sanayaima also appealed Government and authorities concerned to allow admission of students to Class XI for CBSE.
UARSoM general secretary Seikhojam Kipgen was also present in the press meet.
