Imphal, May 23 2023:
The Naga People's Front (NPF), Manipur State unit held an executive meeting today and deliberated on the ethnic crisis besieging the State.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting which was held at their Thangmeiband Tarung office, NPF Manipur State unit president Awangbow Newmai said that the ethnic violence which erupted since May 3 is a matter of grave concern.
"NPF stands in solidarity with all the people killed and injured in the ethnic violence and whose houses have been destroyed", Awangbow said.
The crisis is a very unfortunate one, he said.
What happened has happened.
All the 34 communities of the State should not indulge in any form of violence any longer, he said.
"We all need to work together towards restoration of peace and normalcy", he said.
Frisking people and blocking transportation of essential commodities on National Highways is highly undesirable.
It would only create more misunderstanding and flare up tension, Awangbow Newmai said.
He expressed keen desire for lifting of blockades imposed on National Highways at the earliest.
Neutralising the blockade using Government machinery is also not desirable, he said.
It would be most prudent to lift the blockade through dialogue and understanding.
Jeopardising the lives and careers of students and arresting or reversing the State's economic growth is a big loss for all the people of Manipur, he pointed out.
The first priority for all the people is restoration of peace.
All the details of the crisis such as the factors which triggered the violence will become clear with time, he said.
There is nothing to be afraid of, he added.
