Imphal, January 22 2016 :
MLA Kh Joykishan today conducted a field inspection of the dam being constructed across Sekmai river where another newly built dam was swept away by flood waters on July 24 last year.
Speaking to media persons after inspecting the construction work, Joykishan said that technical defects were pointed out at the initial construction stage of the previous dam swept away by flood waters.
Nonetheless, it deserves appreciation that the technical flaws have been rectified by MI Department this time.
Rather than blaming the Centre for not releasing funds, the State Government should ponder why the funds entitled to the State have been held back, Joykishan said.
Had the State Government utilized the sanctioned funds properly, the question of holding backs funds by the Central Government would have never arisen.
The BJP Government at the Centre has no intention to hold back funds meant for the State but there is no instruction to misappropriate funds sanctioned for development of the State.
He then appealed to all engineers and contractors concerned to build the dam by laying due emphasis on the qualitative aspect and complete the construction before the onset of rainy season.
MI Division II EE H Brojen who was monitoring the dam construction work admitted that the previous dam was swept away by flood waters as the quality was very poor.
But this time all the specifications have been informed to the contractors and stringent instructions have been issued to comply with the specifications.
It is reported that the estimated cost of the dam is Rs 4.4 crore.
